Echinopsis melanopotamica

Echinopsis leucantha
Echinopsis melanopotamica aka as Echinopsis leucantha - A cactus from Southern Argentina lived happily in my cactus garden for several years but following a cold spell of 16 F degrees quickly folded, maybe not from the freeze directly but it seems often times cactus become vulnerable to other pathogens once the cold has challenged their hardiness.

Lindheimer's Fairy-Sword
Myriopteris lindheimeri or Cheilanthes lindheimeri depending on which school of botany you belong to.  Better know simply as Lindheimer's Fairy-Sword grows in dry rocky conditions in places where few people would expect to find a fern.

Ferocactus wislizeni

fishhook barrel cactus
Ferocactus wislizeni (fishhook barrel cactus).  This Texas native also know as Candy Barrel can be found growing in far west Texas, it can live as long as 100 years and grows as much as 6 feet tall, and at that height would weigh about 500 pounds.  That's a big Texan.

Apparently in Mexico the cactus is sometimes sliced into bite sized chunks and soaked in sugar to become a sweet chewable candy for children....yum..?
