Echinocereus papillosus

Echinocereus papillosus
Echinocereus papillosus, tough but extremely slow growing South Texas native.  Well it doesn't help when you accidentally step on it like I did (whoops).

Curse of the Black (Rock) Squirrel!!!

I was having trouble with rock squirrels (Spermophilus variegatus) coming into the cactus bed and taking bites of each cactus.  So I put a fake orange cobra (bottom left) into the garden to try and ward them off.  I think it may have worked for the first day or two until they figured it out.  Also it may have back fired since rock squirrels are famous for being aggressive towards snakes.
